After surveying the site and reviewing the design that the community proposed, we have set forward towards the development of a design that uses sustainable building systems and practices that have been tested here in the United States; and incorporates them into the details that we see in the community’s local architectural vernacular. This way, we create design that allows both parties to bring expertise to the table.
Site plan for the proposed school
By using reclaimed automobile tires, rubble from surrounding areas, along with confined masonry and moment frame elements; we foresee the construction of this school as being a great opportunity for a forum in which ideas are exchanged, and lessons are learned on both sides.
The school is currently in design development, and will be completed through construction documents by May of 2011. The team is also working on the budgets and schedules. We expect that all of these figures will come into clear focus as construction for the water system and road break ground.
